Manchester United were so close to victory win against their Premier League rivals when Anthony Martial’s double had put them 2-1 in front.

But Ross Barkley popped up in the sixth minute of stoppage time to break Mourinho’s heart, prompting ugly scenes at the end.

Sarri’s assistant Marco Ianni rushed down the touchline to celebrate Barkley’s late equaliser and Mourinho launched himself at the Blues man.

Jose Mourinho was visibly frustrated and says he was confused by the amount of time added on by official Dean.

“I hope every referee does the same as Mike Dean and gives six minutes,” he said.

“I don’t know where they came from. We always tried to play, there was no time wasting.

“We defend corners mixed, some zonal, some man to man. Every player knows with closed eyes which player is his player, which space is his space.

“I am pleased with everything apart from the result which is awful for us.”

The Blues went in front in the 21st minutes when Antonio Rudiger headed Willian’s corner into the back of the net.

Martial showed great composure to control Ashley Young’s cross and volley home to equalize ten minutes after half-time.

And he put Mourinho’s side in front with a 15-yard drive in the 73rd minute before Barkley stabbed in from close range after David Luiz’s header came back off the post in the dying seconds.
